A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, identified as Safwan Fade, was tragically beaten to death by individuals described as hoodlums in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Mr. Fade was assigned to the Federal University of Education in Pankshin and was reportedly attacked by a group of assailants who invaded a local stadium in the vicinity.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed this incident during a press briefing at the Command's headquarters in Jos on Tuesday.
Commissioner Adesina reported that two male suspects – Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe – have been apprehended in connection with the violent incident resulting in the death of the corps member. He further stated that a total of 24 individuals have been detained for various alleged offenses.
According to the Commissioner, these arrests were made following a comprehensive investigation, and he pledged to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
"The report was received on January 23, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM, from one Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA, indicating that on January 22, 2025, around 6:00 PM, Safwan Adamu Fade, a corps member serving at FCE Pankshin, was assaulted and severely injured by unidentified assailants at the Pankshin township stadium," he stated.
"Upon receipt of this report, I promptly instructed the Divisional Police Officer of Pankshin to lead a team to the scene, where the victim was immediately transported to a hospital for medical treatment. After being stabilized by the attending medical personnel, the victim was subsequently transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital due to complications, where he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries."
"In the course of our investigation, two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat, and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, have been identified and arrested in connection with this case. We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and will ensure they face legal proceedings," he added.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the law-abiding citizens of the state for their cooperation, which enhances law enforcement's ability to combat crime effectively.
"During the recent period, the Plateau State Police Command has achieved notable operational successes, including significant arrests of criminals and the recovery of firearms and ammunition. The Command is committed to improved service to the public.
