The Nigerian military mistakenly struck and killed 6 persons in the Yauni community of Zakka Ward, located in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to sources who provided information to Circleson Television, the deceased are primarily members of a single family, including three children, one man, and two women.
This occurrence transpired soon after the local government elections held on Saturday and was initiated when security operatives sought to thwart an attack by bandits against voters in Zakka village.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that security forces, including police personnel and members of the State Community Watch Corps (CWC), engaged the bandits in an intense gun battle, during which two police officers and a CWC operative lost their lives.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official commentary from military or government authorities regarding the incident
The airstrike is not unprecedented; a similar tragedy occurred in July 2022 when a military fighter jet inadvertently dropped a bomb on Kunkunni village, also in the Safana Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals.
In an incident earlier in 2025, a military airstrike in Zamfara resulted in the unintentional deaths of 16 persons, including members of the Zamfara Community Protection Guard, local vigilantes, and civilians.
