Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party, has refuted claims regarding his alleged intention to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a succinct statement issued on Thursday February 13th, 2025, Okonkwo described the reports concerning his return to the APC as misinformation. While noting that these claims have gained traction across several online platforms, he asserted that there is no factual basis for them.
He articulated his response on social media, stating, “My attention has been drawn to an online news article circulating that Kenneth Okonkwo has returned to APC. I have two words in reply: ‘fake news.’”
It is pertinent to recall that on Tuesday, Okonkwo announced his resignation from the Labour Party via his social media account, indicating that the resignation would take effect on February 25, 2025, the second anniversary of the 2023 presidential election.
In explaining his decision to resign, Okonkwo noted that the Labour Party, in its current form, is not positioned to play a significant role in shaping Nigeria's political future. He also highlighted the party's failure to conduct ward-level congresses, elect local government and state party executives, or convene a national convention.
According to Okonkwo, it is clear that the Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, prioritizes financial gain over the party's well-being and sustainability.
