The Government of Kano State has allocated N2.5 billion for the implementation of quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in the year 2025.
The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, made this announcement while presenting the detailed breakdown of the state’s 2025 budget, which was recently approved by the State House of Assembly.
Commissioner Shanono indicated that the mass wedding initiative is part of the N91.32 billion designated for the governance and service delivery sector, encompassing various social programs.
Furthermore, the Commissioner disclosed that N1 billion has been earmarked for Ramadan feeding programs, while an unspecified amount will be allocated for manpower statistics surveys, general household surveys, and the enumeration of out-of-school children.
Additionally, N1.049 billion has been set aside for the acquisition of printing machines, the rehabilitation of the general water system, and the enhancement of the Government Printing Press library.
In further remarks regarding budget allocations, Shanono noted that an unspecified amount will be expended on infrastructure provision, the printing of the Islamic calendar, and support for Islamic Da’wah programs, which include welfare packages for new converts to Islam.
Moreover, the budget designates an unspecified sum for security research, interventions for street begging, and empowerment development initiatives.
Simultaneously, an unspecified amount has been allocated for the procurement of office furniture, maintenance of the Accountant-General’s office, and activities related to public finance management reform.
Commissioner Shanono announced that the approved budget for 2025 totals N719.75 billion, reflecting a 31% increase from the N549.16 billion originally submitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The budget comprises N262.67 billion for recurrent expenditures and N457.08 billion for capital expenditures. In comparison to the 2024 budget, this represents a 65% increase, amounting to N282.41 billion.
