Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has urged the newly appointed General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army to enhance efforts aimed at addressing the sit-at-home orders imposed by non-state actors in the South-East region on Mondays.
Additionally, the Governor advised security agencies to implement a reward system designed to bolster the morale of their officers and personnel.
This appeal was articulated in a statement disseminated to journalists by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, following a courtesy visit from Major-General Oluyemi Olatoye, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, at the Government House Centenary City in Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru expressed confidence in Major-General Olatoye's familiarity with the geopolitical landscape of the South-East. He noted, “The support of dedicated military officers deployed to our state has been pivotal. We remain committed to providing our support and are confident in the caliber of personnel serving here. We have also demonstrated our appreciation for exemplary service through financial rewards and gifts to select officers.”
In prior remarks, Major-General Olatoye conveyed his gratitude to Governor Nwifuru for his steadfast support of the military. He assured the Governor of his commitment to collaborating with the state to uphold law and order.
“I assumed command of the 82 Division on 27 January 2025. The purpose of this visit is to familiarize myself with the operational environment, the challenges faced, and the future directives for the command. It is imperative to enhance inter-agency and inter-service collaboration,” he stated.
General Olatoye further expressed appreciation for the Governor's efforts in ensuring effective organization among the agencies and acknowledged the rewards provided to deserving personnel. “I sincerely appreciate the honor and respect afforded to the military,” he remarked.
