On the evening of February 13, 2025, the Most Reverend Isaac Dugu, Bishop of the Katsina-Ala Diocese in Benue State, engaged in a meeting with Chen Dekela to enhance the current peace process and to encourage him to demonstrate greater commitment in light of the ongoing concerns within the community.
These concerns predominantly pertain to pervasive security challenges, including rampant banditry, frequent kidnappings, aggressive Fulani attacks, indiscriminate killings, and excessive taxation levied on agricultural produce and within market areas.
During the meeting, the Bishop referenced Ephesians 4:32 and delivered a brief sermon, urging Chen to envision a revitalized Sankera characterized by peace, love, and forgiveness as foundational elements for future development and coexistence.
The Bishop emphasized the necessity of a collective endeavor, asserting that the transition toward peace must commence with the involvement of all stakeholders. He encouraged Chen to consider arranging a dialogue with his brother, Mzaga Terhemba Fullfire, to facilitate peace mediation, to which Chen responded positively.
In his reply, Chen expressed profound gratitude for the Bishop's visit and committed to addressing the areas of concern raised during their discussion. He also took the opportunity to provide detailed clarifications regarding some accusations that had been directed at him.
The outcome of the meeting yielded remarkably positive results, with all participants demonstrating a renewed commitment to collaborating for a harmonious and peaceful coexistence.
