The Benue State Government, under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia, has begun the construction of the first flyover at Wurukum in Makurdi, the state capital under a Catholic priest administration.
The construction of the flyover marks a historic milestone as the first of its kind since the establishment of Benue State on February 3, 1976. The state has never previously possessed an underpass or a flyover. This achievement has been made possible under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration.
Earlier today, February 10, 2025, the Honorable Tiza Isaac Imojime Orya, Commissioner for Works and Urban Development, welcomed a joint team from the Federal Ministry of Works and China Harbour. This team proceeded to Chainage 0 on the Makurdi 9th-mile route to commence a geotechnical survey, marking the official start of the flyover project.
This initiative was made possible through Governor Alia's proactive request, and the contractors have been assured of the full cooperation of the state government, particularly concerning compensation related to the Right of Way (ROW).
As construction progresses, residents of Benue State are encouraged to comply with the anticipated traffic modifications and diversions that will be in effect over the next seven days. This compliance will facilitate a smooth initiation of the project.
The completion of the flyover is projected to significantly enhance the state's infrastructure and improve connectivity.
