Arsenal Fined for Lewis-Skelly Red Card Reaction

Arsenal Football Club has received a fine of £65,000 due to a failure to control its players following the red given to Myles Lewis-Skelly during their Premier League victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Football Association (FA) charged Arsenal for not ensuring that its players acted properly during the match at Molineux on 25 January. The club accepted the charge, after which an independent regulatory commission imposed the financial penalty.

During the 43rd minute of the match, which concluded with a score of 1-0 in favor of Arsenal, several players surrounded referee Michael Oliver after he issued a straight red card to Lewis-Skelly for a foul against Matt Doherty.

The decision made by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Darren England, corroborated Oliver's judgment that the foul constituted serious foul play.

Arsenal lodged an appeal against the red card decision; subsequently, the three-match suspension imposed on the 18-year-old player was overturned. Following the match, the referees’ organization, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), reported that law enforcement is investigating threats and abuse directed at Oliver and his family on social media platforms.
