The Court of Appeal, seated in Ibadan, has affirmed the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso. This ruling reverses a previous decision that had nullified his appointment.
On Tuesday, Justice Yargata Nimpar, presiding over a three-member panel, ruled in favor of Oba Olaoye on all ten grounds presented in the appeal.
Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso had, on October 25, 2023, invalidated Oba Olaoye’s selection, characterizing the process as “irregular, null, and void” due to noncompliance with the stipulations outlined in the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.
However, the appellate court has set aside the prior ruling, thus reaffirming the legitimacy of Oba Olaoye as the soun of Ogbomoso.
