The Anambra State Government has sealed off the Ministry operated by Pastor Onyebuchi Okocha, located in Amafor village, Nkpor, within the Idemili North Local Government Area.
The closure of the church follows strong allegations regarding the ministry's involvement in the practice of Oke Ite.
Oke Ite refers to a concoction prepared by traditional healers using human and animal parts, alongside various herbs, which is purportedly utilized for financial rituals.
The Anambra State Government has identified this practice as fraudulent and indicative of a scheme utilized by some traditional healers to deceive unsuspecting clients. As a result, a manhunt has been initiated for those involved.
Ken Emeakai, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, disclosed the closure to the press while leading members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi to the site. He articulated that the decision to seal the ministry was precipitated by numerous public complaints regarding Pastor Okocha's activities, as well as disclosures from a video in which he claimed to perform Oke Ite and other related services.
Emeakai further indicated that the government would conduct forensic analyses on the liquid substances found within the ministry. He emphasized that the state does not oppose any religious practices but will not endorse those that propagate a fast-track wealth acquisition mindset.
Emeakai assured the public that forensic experts would be engaged to collect samples from River Bethsaida, which is utilized by the pastor, also known as Aka na asa uchu, for bathing individuals. This step aims to ascertain any potential health risks posed to the public.
