On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the enforcement team of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), in collaboration with security personnel from the Nigerian Police, successfully dismantled a syndicate involved in the production of counterfeit motorcycle number plates in North-Bank, Makurdi.
During the operation, several counterfeit number plates were seized, and one suspect was apprehended. The perpetrators will face prosecution by legal procedures.
This operation aims to address the rising issue of crime associated with unregulated motorcycles, which have become a significant concern for local authorities.
The crackdown is part of broader measures to enhance security and ensure compliance with transportation regulations related to the issuance of vehicle registration and ensure they acquire legitimate documentation for their vehicles.
