At least two construction workers have been rescued from a three-story building that collapsed along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka, Anambra State.

The structure, situated near the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) building and adjacent to Diamond Pizza, was in the roofing stage at the time of the collapse on Wednesday, January 29.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Circleson Television narrated.

The building unexpectedly collapsed without any apparent warning while workers were still present at the site.

Bystanders and passersby initiated rescue operations before the arrival of state officials, including members of the fire service and representatives from the Materials Testing Department of the State Ministry of Housing. Although the cause of the collapse remains undetermined, security operatives have cordoned off the area with caution tape.

The State Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, reporting that two construction workers were transported to a medical facility for urgent care. Ikenga also noted that no fatalities resulted from the collapse.

The site engineer and the property owner have been summoned for questioning regarding the incident.
