Political Figures And Military Personnel Are Profiting from Insurgency in Borno — Governor Babagana Zulum

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has articulated concerns regarding political figures and military personnel who are benefiting from the ongoing insurgency in the region for decades.

In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Governor Zulum indicated that the sponsors of this conflict have little interest in the resolution of the crisis.

He elaborated that these beneficiaries extend beyond Borno State, indicating a presence across various regions of the country and encompassing multiple societal strata, including both civilians and military personnel.

"Within the community, there are individuals who do not desire the cessation of this crisis, as they are deriving advantages from it. This phenomenon is not limited to civilians; it is prevalent across all levels of society," he stated.

Furthermore, Governor Zulum emphasized the frequent apprehension of informants and military personnel who have been implicated in actions such as supplying arms to insurgents, underscoring the complex nature of the situation.

He noted the significant degree of foreign intrusion within the state, which exacerbates the challenges faced by local authorities in combating insurgency. "The permeability of our borders, particularly in areas adjacent to Lake Chad and the Sambisa game reserve, serves as a refuge for terrorist elements," he remarked.
