The Nigerian Army, operating under the auspices of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, has intensified its campaign against banditry in Taraba State through a series of clearance operations designated as ‘Operation Golden Peace.
These operations, which are supported by comprehensive patrols and community engagement activities, have effectively dismantled numerous bandit hideouts in the northern region of the state.
The most recent phase of this operation commenced on November 28, 2024, targeting well-known bandits and terrorist camps located near the Lijem High Ground in the Takum Local Government Area.
Troops successfully cleared these hideouts and increased their security presence in the vicinity of Vingiri and Vingir villages, thereby enhancing the sense of security among local populations.
Subsequent operations conducted on November 29 and 30 concentrated on areas such as Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages. Notably, in the New Gboko and Che Adekpe camps—associated with the sought-after criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also referred to as Boujogh—troops engaged in a vigorous exchange of gunfire with bandits. The bandits, faced with superior firepower, were compelled to retreat.
Throughout these operations, the troops destroyed several bandit camps and recovered an array of munitions, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.
To bolster security further, troop presence was extended to the Akume and Ananum regions of the Donga Local Government Area on November 30.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, expressed appreciation for the cooperation of local communities and emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance and the timely reporting of suspicious activities. “Together, we shall ensure peace and security throughout Taraba State and beyond,” General Uwa assured the community.
