On Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, experienced a setback in his attempt to secure bail from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
Justice Maryann dismissed Bello’s bail application because it was submitted before his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The bail application was filed on November 22, while Bello was taken into custody by the EFCC on November 26 and subsequently arraigned on November 27. During the arraignment, which took place before the court led by Justice Anenih, the former governor faced charges alongside his co-defendants, Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu. This case involves a total of 16 charges brought by the EFCC on behalf of the Federal Government.
The charges presented before the FCT High Court, referenced as FCT/HC/CR/778/24, include allegations of criminal breach of trust involving the sum of N110,446,470,089, among other charges.
