Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has officially launched Zeva Premium Lager Beer, a notable product of the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC). The launch took place at IBB Square in Makurdi.
This initiative marks a substantial advancement in the state’s industrialization efforts and aims to stimulate economic development.
Governor Alia characterized the project as a transformative measure to leverage Benue's extensive agricultural resources.
He disclosed that the Food Basket Brewery, which is responsible for producing Zeva Premium Lager, is structured to establish a sustainable value chain by converting local crops such as cassava, sorghum, millet, and maize into high-value products. This endeavor is expected to generate employment, empower farmers, and fortify the local economy.
The governor underscored the broader economic implications, which include an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), enhanced revenue for the government, and the establishment of a stable market for farmers’ produce. Additionally, this initiative is anticipated to benefit related industries, including packaging, distribution, and retail.
In addition to the launch of Zeva Premium Lager Beer, Governor Alia acknowledged other initiatives led by BIPC, such as the production of BIPC Bread, water supply, and a motorcycle hire-purchase scheme.
He indicated that these projects are in alignment with his administration’s commitment to economic diversification, revitalizing stagnant industries, and fostering a business-friendly atmosphere.
Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BIPC, referred to Zeva Premium Lager as an embodiment of resilience and innovation. He highlighted its immediate economic benefits, including the creation of thousands of new jobs, and emphasized the support for local farmers through guaranteed markets for essential crops.
Dr. Asemakaha further elaborated that despite ongoing challenges in revitalizing the Benue Brewery, the state government and BIPC have proactively established the Food Basket Brewery. This facility is projected to become fully operational next year, while an interim contract brewing model has been instituted to ensure the prompt availability of Zeva Premium Lager Beer.
The Managing Director emphasized that this initiative transcends the brewery itself, stimulating key sectors such as transportation, retail, and hospitality, as part of a broader mission to rejuvenate the state’s industrial sector and position it as a focal point for economic growth.
The introduction of Zeva Premium Lager Beer is expected to invigorate Benue’s economy, presenting new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and the youth, while establishing a solid foundation for a resilient industrial base.
