The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has promoted the acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, to the rank of Lieutenant General.
The promotion was marked by a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, during which President Tinubu officially decorated Oluyede with his new rank on Tuesday, 4th November 2024. The President praised the military for its steadfast courage, dedication, and patriotism in safeguarding the nation’s security.
"It is both an honor and a privilege to confer this distinction today. This recognition signifies your enduring commitment and service to the Nigerian military, which is evident through your exemplary record," stated President Tinubu.
He further assured the military that the government would always remain receptive to their counsel in its pursuit of national peace and prosperity. "We are confronted with challenges; however, progress is being made," he added.
The President attributed the successes achieved in combating terrorism and banditry to the effective "synergy" within the armed forces and urged the service chiefs to maintain harmonious relationships for the advancement of the country.
"The collaboration among you has contributed to stabilizing the nation. It is essential that we continue to assure all citizens that prosperity is within reach," President Tinubu remarked.
In response, Oluyede expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the significance of the occasion. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and to fostering peace throughout the nation.
