On Saturday evening, the Vice President, portrayed by Maya Rudolph in the 50th season of the comedy show, traveled to New York City following a campaign event in Charlotte, North Carolina. This unscheduled visit occurred while en route to Detroit, Michigan, with Air Force Two landing at LaGuardia Airport in Queens. The episode marked the final installment of the show before Election Day on Tuesday.

During her appearance, the Vice President engaged with Rudolph after the actress looked into a mirror and expressed a desire to converse with someone who shared her experiences. The camera then transitioned to reveal the Vice President's reflection, eliciting significant applause from the studio audience.

"You and I both share similar experiences," Harris stated to Rudolph. She further remarked, "It is a pleasure to see you, Kamala. I am here to remind you that you possess the capabilities to accomplish what your opponent cannot, such as opening doors."

This comment was made shortly after a viral video depicted former President Trump struggling to enter a garbage truck in Wisconsin while attired in an orange fluorescent safety vest.

Harris subsequently inquired whether Rudolph truly laughs as depicted in the show. "Yeah, a little bit,” Rudolph responded, adding that she intends to support their campaign.

Harris then asked, “Is there any possibility that you are registered in Pennsylvania?” referencing the crucial swing state that will significantly influence the outcome of the presidential election.

In response to the sketch, the Trump campaign stated News Nation, characterizing Harris as "living out her warped fantasy while engaging with her elitist peers."

In October, Lorne Michaels, the creator of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL), communicated to The Hollywood Reporter that the program had not approached any candidates for participation and had no intentions of doing so.

Michaels stated, “One cannot feature the actual individuals who are campaigning due to election laws and the equal time provisions.” He further elaborated on the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) regulations regarding equal time for candidates, indicating that “the main candidates cannot be showcased without including all candidates, and there are numerous minor candidates whose presence is limited to just a few states, which complicates the situation significantly.”

This season, in addition to Maya Rudolph's portrayal of Kamala Harris, James Austin Johnson has assumed the role of Donald Trump, while Jim Gaffigan and Bowen Yang have represented Tim Walz and J.D. Vance, respectively. Dana Carvey has depicted President Joe Biden, while Andy Samberg has taken on the character of Harris's spouse, Doug Emhoff.

On Saturday, Jason Miller, a senior advisor to Trump, expressed to the Associated Press his surprise regarding Harris's appearance on the program, noting that the show has not presented her in a complimentary light. When inquiring whether Trump had been invited to participate in SNL, he responded, “I do not know. It is probably unlikely.”

This is not the first instance of prominent political figures making cameo appearances on the show. In 2007, then-candidate Barack Obama made an appearance on SNL under a Halloween mask, while fellow candidate Hillary Clinton also had a cameo. Sarah Palin, who was the vice presidential candidate alongside John McCain, appeared on the show weeks ahead of the election. Additionally, Donald Trump hosted the program in 2015 as a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2016 election, which he ultimately secured.
