Jim Abrahams, a notable figure in the realm of comedy as part of the esteemed writing-directing-producing team responsible for iconic works such as Airplane!, The Naked Gun, film series, and Police Squad!, passed away on November 26, 2024, at his residence in Santa Monica, California. He was 80 years old.

Abrahams, along with his brothers Jerry and David Zucker, was instrumental in creating several celebrated comedic productions, cementing his legacy in the industry.

His son, Joseph Abrahams, confirmed the news to Circleson Television, indicating that his father succumbed to natural causes.

James Steven Abrahams was born on May 10, 1944, in Shorewood, Wisconsin, into a Jewish family. He was the son of educational researcher Louise M. (née Ogens) and lawyer Norman S. Abrahams.

He received his education at Shorewood High School and maintained a residence in Eagle River, Wisconsin, where he spent summers throughout his childhood.

Abrahams is widely recognized for his contributions to parody films, co-writing, and producing with his brothers Jerry and David Zucker.

His most notable works include Airplane!, for which he received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Screenplay, and The Naked Gun series. The collaboration known as ZAZ emerged during the trio’s upbringing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He directed films independently, including Big Business, and further refined his parody expertise with Hot Shots! and its sequel, Hot Shots! Part Deux.

His creative endeavors, Abrahams and his wife, Nancy (née Cocuzzo), co-founded The Charlie Foundation, which aims to assist in the treatment of pediatric epilepsy.

He was a father to three children, one of whom, daughter Jamie Abrahams, continues the family legacy as a comedy writer.
