Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to transfer all facilities of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko LGA to leaders of the Fulani herdsmen.
This directive was communicated in a statement released by the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, and disclosed to the press on Monday.
Governor Buni emphasized the necessity of the handover, citing the readiness of the multi-billion naira project for occupation and utilization.
He underscored the substantial investments made by his administration, in conjunction with the Federal Government, in constructing the reserve, which stands as the second-largest livestock development centre in sub-Saharan Africa.
The governor reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the grazing reserve for the socio-economic advancement and enhancement of livestock production in the state.
The statement further conveyed that the establishment of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre reflects a deliberate policy by the administration to settle herders in one location, enabling them to focus on their grazing activities and enroll their children in school.
The grazing reserve's amenities encompass a milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, a primary school for nomadic children, and a feed mill centre. Additionally, there are provisions for an artificial insemination centre, breed improvement centre, warehouses, and aquaculture ponds, all aimed at bolstering livestock production in the state.
