The combined security forces in Kebbi State successfully liberated nine abducted residents of Kanya in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. However, one individual remains in captivity. Abdulrahman Usman Zaga, the Director of Security at the Cabinet Office, confirmed this development in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
He stated that the security team confronted the bandits in a gun battle, resulting in the rescue of the victims, with one person still held captive.
Zaga attributed this achievement to the unwavering support of Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, who provided the necessary resources for the security agencies to deliver results. The director emphasized the governor’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of the people of Kebbi State, noting that the governor ensures the provision of logistics, allowances, and other forms of support to the security personnel.
Additionally, Zaga expressed gratitude to the governor and the security agencies for their efforts and reassured the public that the security personnel were actively working to secure the release of the remaining captive.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Alhaji Almustapha Almu, Hajara S. Maikano, Rukayya Isah Daya, Bello Isa Daya, Fa’iza S. Maikano, Amina S. Maikano, and Jidah Babangida.
Governor Dr. Nasir Idris had previously pledged the state government's full commitment to rescuing the victims. He expressed deep concern upon learning of the abduction and assured the public that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is exerting all possible efforts to secure the release of all the abducted persons.
