Temitope Ayeobasan, a 21-year-old Nigerian student, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first to graduate with a first-class degree in history and international relations from Lagos State University (LASU) since the establishment of the department 40 years ago.
Professor Adeyeri Olusegun, the department head, commended her tenacity, emphasizing her remarkable academic journey from the inception of her studies at the 100 level.
In an interview, Temitope disclosed that her original intention was to pursue law; however, her growing fondness for history led her to wholeheartedly commit to the discipline.
She attributed her accomplishment to her passion, early groundwork, meaningful friendships, and the establishment of a robust academic base, notwithstanding challenges such as consecutive examinations and prolonged lectures.
