Senate Begins Screening Process for Seven New Ministers

The Senate has initiated the screening process for seven newly appointed ministers. The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, proposed for the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Dingyadi, nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, put forward as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, designated as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.

Additionally, Idi Muktar Maiha has been nominated as Minister of Livestock Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ata is slated for the role of Minister of State for Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad is nominated as Minister of State for Education.

The Senate, upon a motion introduced by the leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, at 12:57 PM on Wednesday, suspended its rules to allow the Special Adviser to the President on Senate matters, Basheer Lado, to present the nominees in the plenary session.

Senate President GodsWill Akpabio, on Thursday, read the official letter from President Bola Tinubu regarding the nomination of the new ministers.

This development follows President Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which included the dismissal of five ministers: Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
