ABOUT LASU:

Lagos State University, commonly referred to as LASU, is a state-owned university in Lagos, Nigeria, which was established in 1983.

The university's primary campus is located in Ojo, with additional campuses in Ikeja and Epe. LASU was founded with the mission of advancing learning and promoting academic excellence.

Currently, the university accommodates over 35,000 students and offers a wide range of diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs, including an MBA program.

In 2020, LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities globally by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

On June 23, 2021, it was recognized as the best young university in Nigeria, being below 50 years of age. Furthermore, on September 2, 2020, Times Higher Education ranked Lagos State University as the second-best university in Nigeria, with the university being the only state-owned institution included in the 2022 rankings.

Lagos State University has also been successful in attracting international funding, notably for the establishment of the World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This initiative underscores the university's commitment to promoting excellence in these critical fields.

The university was initially envisioned as a multi-campus, non-residential institution. It follows a multi-campus system, with four fully owned campuses.

The main campus is located at Ojo, along the Badagry Expressway, while additional campuses are situated at Epe (housing the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture) and Ikeja (home to the College of Medicine).

A 300-seat theatre hall is currently being constructed at the main campus in Ojo by the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN). The project site is opposite the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate House, and it is flanked by a new library building (still under construction) and the existing student affairs building. Once completed, the building will function as a lecture hall for students, along with offices and a secretariat.

The university commenced with three faculties: Commerce and Business Administration, Law, and Medicine. The Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration was later renamed to the Faculty of Business and Social Studies during the initial board meeting.

Subsequently, the faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Science, Communication and Media Studies, and the School of Transport were added.
