The Federal Government has set a new deadline of September 2025 for Julius Berger to finalize the construction of the N280 billion Bodo-Bonny Road in Rivers State.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the revised contract amount for Julius Berger to expedite the road's completion.
During an inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Rivers State, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed that the approval was granted after negotiations with the contractor. Umahi emphasized the need for Julius Berger to adhere to the project specifications and ensure timely completion.
Umahi stated, "We have acceded to Julius Berger's financial requirements after a year of negotiations. The contract sum has been approved at N280 billion, as per the contractor's request, sanctioned by the President and the Federal Executive Council. Julius Berger is expected to mobilize in at least three locations to expedite the project."
The minister pledged to conduct two more inspections before the end of 2024 to oversee the progress and ensure compliance with the agreement. He emphasized the deadline of September 2025 for project completion and reiterated the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon terms.
Umahi also acknowledged the work completed by the contractors and assured the public that the road, once finished, will have a lifespan of 50-100 years without necessitating maintenance or reconstruction.
