ABOUT FUGASHUA:
Federal University Gashua (FUGashua) is a distinguished institution of higher learning located in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria.
Established in 2013 under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the university was founded with the noble objective of providing accessible higher education to states in Nigeria that were previously without a federal university, thereby promoting equal access to education across all states.
In 2010, the Federal Government of Nigeria approved the establishment of twelve universities across the country's six geopolitical zones, to broaden access to tertiary education for all Nigerians.
To facilitate the successful establishment of these universities, an Implementation Committee comprising the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and other relevant stakeholders was formed.
Following consultations with state governors and site inspections, the Committee submitted its report on 15 November 2010. The implementation of the committee's report was executed in phases, with the first phase leading to the establishment of nine universities in February 2011, and the second phase including the establishment of three universities, including FUGashua, in February 2013.
Professor Shehu Abdul Rahaman was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor, and Sulu Dauda as the Registrar (pioneers) on 18 February 2013. In June 2015, FUGashua held its inaugural matriculation ceremony, enrolling 240 pioneer students.
Notably, the student population witnessed significant growth, with 990 students matriculating in February 2018, marking a remarkable milestone in the university's development.
