During the House of Representatives plenary session on Thursday, a bill advocating for the establishment of Ogoja State successfully passed its second reading.
The bill, which is being Sponsored by Godwin Offiono and three others, the proposed constitution alteration bill aims to modify the 1999 Constitution to accommodate an additional state in the South-south region.
Mr. Offiono emphasized that the bill's purpose lies in promoting equity. If enacted, this bill would increase the number of states in the South-south region to seven.
The bill encountered no opposition during its second reading and has been referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review.
