Former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, endorsed and affirmed his appointment as the FCT Minister.
Wike stated that he formally notified the PDP at all organizational levels when President Bola Tinubu extended the ministerial offer to him.
Appearing on the Politics Today program on Channels TV, Wike mentioned that both PDP and Fubara encouraged him to assume the position.
"Before I accepted this appointment, I corresponded with the PDP. I notified the PDP National, PDP Zonal, and the PDP in my state. Additionally, my governor endorsed my acceptance of the appointment.
"Indeed, it is accurate. The zonal party communicated its support for my acceptance," he remarked.
Tinubu had appointed Wike as the FCT Minister subsequent to his triumph in the previous presidential election.
During the 2023 election, Wike aligned with Tinubu against the then-PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Following his appointment as the FCT Minister, Wike experienced a falling out with his successor, Governor Fubara, over allegations of imposing his preferences and regulations on the new governor.
This discord has engendered a protracted crisis in the state.
