ABOUT OAU:

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal university located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Established in 1961, the university began classes in October 1962 under the name University of Ife, founded by the regional government of Western Nigeria under the leadership of Samuel Ladoke Akintola.

It was later renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on May 12, 1987, by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida led military administration, in honor of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, who originally conceived the idea for its establishment.

Obafemi Awolowo University is home to 13 faculties and two colleges—the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences—housing over 60 departments. The institution offers comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines including humanities, arts, natural sciences, social sciences, medical sciences, engineering, and technology. Previously, the university had affiliations with Loma Linda University in California, US.
