The Lagos State Government has issued a directive for employees within the state to transition to a work-from-home arrangement in response to the recent surge in petrol prices.
This decision comes as a continuation of the government's remote work policy, which has been extended for an additional three months to mitigate the challenges resulting from the increased petrol pump prices.
The directive for this extension was approved by the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and was communicated through a circular signed by the state's Head of Service, Bode Agoro, on Wednesday.
It is important to note that Governor Sanwo-Olu had initially instructed employees to work remotely starting from February 28, with specific guidelines based on grade levels. Employees falling within grade levels 01 to 14 were permitted to work from home for two days per week, while those in grade levels 15 to 17 were allowed to work remotely for one day per week. This measure was implemented to alleviate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on the workforce.
In the circular circulated on Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the positive effects of the work-from-home policy on the productivity of employees across various ministries, departments, and agencies of the state government.
The extension of this work-from-home policy came into effect as of September 4.
