ABOUT FULAFIA:
The Federal University of Lafia, previously named Federal University, Lafia, is a recently established institution located in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State. It was founded in 2010 as part of the initiative by the Goodluck Jonathan administration to establish nine new federal universities across Nigeria's six geo-political zones.
In September 2012, the university commenced academic activities, enrolling its first group of students under the guidance of the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ekanem Ikpi Braide. Subsequently, the university welcomed its third Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdulrahaman, appointed by former President Major General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR (RTD), effective from 11th February 2021, following the conclusion of Prof. Muhammad Sanusi Liman's tenure.
Originally planned to be situated along Jos Road in the Lafia metropolis and to operate using the facilities of the College of Agriculture in Lafia, the university's temporary location was ultimately moved to Obi Road outside the Lafia metropolis. In 2015, the university began relocating to its permanent 206-hectare site provided by the Nasarawa State Government along Lafia-Markudi Road. As of 2018, the central administration and the majority of faculties have successfully transitioned to the university's permanent site, except for two faculties. The university also has a dedicated intranet for internal use.
