Edo Guber Landscape: Oshiomhole Alleges Obaseki Role in Shaibu APC Transition

The Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, alleged that the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the challenges he encountered under Governor Godwin Obaseki's administration.

Oshiomhole made these remarks during the final event of the APC governorship campaign at the University of Benin.

He accused Obaseki of misappropriating federal funds intended for state projects for personal gain. Edo State is set to elect its next governor on September 21, with Monday Okpebholo of the APC, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) being the leading contenders.

It's worth noting that Obaseki and Shaibu have had a strained relationship, leading to Shaibu's impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly. However, an Appeal Court in Abuja reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor.

During the campaign, Oshiomhole emphasized that Obaseki's management has caused the deputy governor to switch parties due to frustration. Furthermore, Obaseki's alleged refusal to endorse the Peace Accord and his reported warning against the arrest of individuals involved in an incident in which a policeman attached to their candidate was killed were also highlighted.
