Born on December 28, 1934, as the daughter of an Oxford professor of pathology, Dame Maggie Smith made her remarkable stage debut in 1952 with the Oxford University Dramatic Society.
She was awarded the Best Actress Oscar for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” at the 1969 Oscars and the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Desdemona in “Othello” in the same year.
