The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has issued a statement announcing the suspension of its local government election campaign following the untimely passing of the First Lady of the state, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno.
The statement, signed by the party's publicity secretary, Edwin Ebiese, expressed deep sadness and devastation at the news of the First Lady’s demise.
The party conveyed profound sadness and a deep sense of loss, leading to the decision to suspend the local government campaign out of respect for the departed First Lady. The party extended heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and his immediate family, as well as to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State. The statement also expressed appreciation for the understanding of supporters and the general public during this difficult time.
In addition to the party's reaction, prominent leaders and citizens of the state, including Senator Aniekan Bassey, expressed deep sadness over the passing of the governor’s wife. Senator Bassey extended heartfelt condolences to the Governor and his family, acknowledging the First Lady’s pivotal role and offering solace in the promise of eternal peace.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, announced that all flags would be flown at half-mast in all government buildings and facilities across the State as a symbol of the collective grief and mourning of the people of Akwa Ibom.
