Jamb Reduced Utme Fees for Candidates With Disabilities to Enhance Accessibility

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently announced a reduction in the registration fee for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from N5,000 to N3,500 for candidates with disabilities, as part of its efforts to promote inclusive education.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, revealed this at a press conference held on Monday preceding JAMB’s Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) first Africa Regional Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education (ARCEAHED) in Abuja on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to the reduced registration fee, JAMB will offer free accommodation and transportation for the visually impaired and other candidates with disabilities who require special examination settings. Furthermore, the Board will provide free application documents and exempt fees, including the computer-based test (CBT) center fee, for candidates with disabilities who possess five O’ level credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate.

Oloyede emphasized the collective responsibility to ensure that no individual is left behind in the pursuit of quality education. The upcoming ARCEAHED conference aims to enhance access to higher education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Africa, with participants expected from various African countries.

JAMB's Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) has been actively working to provide equal access to higher education for persons with disabilities, recognizing the importance of accessible opportunities for all, regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.

By implementing these measures, JAMB is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring equitable access to tertiary education for all individuals, irrespective of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.
