The University of Cape Coast's governing council has reportedly revoke the appointment of Vice-Chancellor Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong.
Although his initial four-year term, which commenced on August 1, 2020, was originally scheduled to conclude on July 31, 2024, reports indicate that a purported two-year extension was annulled by the council.
This action was purportedly taken due to an alleged infringement of the university's regulations concerning the reappointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
The council's communication suggested the potential for an extension of Boampong's appointment, although no final determination had been reached.
He was encouraged to submit a fresh application should he desire to be considered. This development follows a legal challenge by John Mevemeo, a resident of Millennium City-Kasoa, contesting the extension on the basis that it contravened university statutes.
The contested renewal would have extended Boampong's tenure beyond the statutory retirement age of 60, which he is set to reach on September 12, 2025.
