The gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, Gbenga Edema, has emphasized the need for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to provide transparency regarding the allocation of the federal government's sent palliatives in the state.
Edema's campaign organization expressed concerns about the lack of information from the state government concerning the distribution process.
The spokesperson for the Olugbenga Edema Campaign Organization, Oluwatosin Ayeni, raised issues about the alleged exclusive allocation of the palliatives to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ayeni stressed the importance of prioritizing all residents, regardless of their party affiliation. This call for transparency was prompted by President Bola Tinubu's recent disclosure that over N500 billion had been dispersed to states for alleviating citizens' hardships.
The campaign organization accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of allegedly favoring APC members in the distribution of the palliatives received from the Federal Government, emphasizing that these resources are meant to alleviate the adversities caused by the current administration.
In response, the Information Director of Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC), Kayode Fasua, dismissed the allegations as unsubstantiated. He reiterated the governor's commitment to equitably distributing palliative items to vulnerable persons across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
