NYSC Takes a Stand: 101 Certificates Invalidated for Fraudulent Mobilisation and Exemption

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has announced the invalidation of 101 certificates of individuals who were fraudulently mobilized for national service. Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, made this disclosure in a statement released on Monday in Abuja.

The University of Calabar illegally mobilized 101 individuals for national service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 NYSC service years. Among them, 99 were slated for service, while two were exempted. As a result, the NYSC management emphasizes its unwavering commitment to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youth, particularly those who allegedly graduated from unaccredited universities, are not acknowledged. The issuance of NYSC Certificates of National Service will be strictly reserved for qualified individuals.

Consequently, the NYSC certificates of the affected individuals have been invalidated with immediate effect. Megwa has urged the public, especially corps employers, government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), corporate and religious organizations, multinational companies, agricultural institutions, and other key stakeholders of NYSC, to take prompt action.

He also encourages the public to consistently verify the authenticity of certificates of national service, as well as exemption and exclusion letters, with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja before using them for any purpose.
