The eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State have been successfully released.
YD Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, emphasized the importance of member welfare and security in his address to the press on Friday, cautioning against nighttime travel.
Ahmed recounted the incident, noting that the abduction occurred on August 17, 2024, on Funtua Bisau Road in Zamfara State. He highlighted the collaborative efforts involving the Army, Police, DSS, and traditional leaders in Zambara and confirmed discussions with the governor of Zambara State regarding the situation.
He expressed gratitude for the combined efforts of the security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army and the NYSC, which led to the successful rescue of the first group of four prospective corps members. The welfare and security of all members remain a top priority for the NYSC.
