The Nigerian U20 women’s football team is scheduled to depart for Colombia on August 18 to participate in the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
This year's tournament will feature 24 participating teams, with Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Ghana representing Africa.
The tournament, slated to take place from August 31 to September 22, will be hosted across four venues in three Colombian cities: Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali. In Bogotá, matches will be held at Estadio El Campín and Estadio El Techo, while the Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín and the Estadio Pascual Guerrero in Cali will also host games.
The Falconets, who have been undergoing training in Abuja since July 7, have been placed in Group D alongside Germany, Venezuela, and the Korea Republic. With a strong track record, having qualified for every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and reaching the finals twice, finishing as runners-up to Germany in 2010 and 2014, the team is a formidable contender.
The Falconets will engage in international friendly matches in Colombia upon their arrival. The group stage draw for the tournament is as follows:
- Group A: Colombia, Australia, Cameroon, Mexico
- Group B: France, Canada, Brazil, Fiji
- Group C: Spain, USA, Paraguay, Morocco
- Group D: Germany, Venezuela, Nigeria, Korea Republic
- Group E: Japan, New Zealand, Ghana, Austria
- Group F: Korea DPR, Argentina, Costa Rica, Netherlands
