Nigeria's women's basketball team, D'Tigress, achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever berth in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Basketball tournament following a 79-70 victory over Canada on Sunday.
Despite conceding the second and fourth quarters 23-19 and 24-19, respectively, Nigeria's dominant 23-5 performance in the third quarter proved pivotal. The tightly contested first quarter ended in a tie at 18 points apiece.
Ezinne Kalu emerged as Nigeria's leading scorer with 21 points, while Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah demonstrated prowess under the boards with 7 rebounds. Notably, Promise Amukamara contributed significantly with 6 assists.
This triumph sees D'Tigress claim victory in two out of their three group-stage encounters while sustaining a single defeat, amassing 208 points scored and conceding 207 throughout.
