The Nigerian Airforce's Air Component of Operation Delta Safe has destroyed 13 illegal refining sites, 10 overhead tanks, and numerous gallons of illegally refined products near Obizor and Okoloma.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, this success was achieved through intensified aerial patrols within the Niger Delta region.
The operation, conducted along the Imo River near Obuzor and Okoloma, revealed the presence of several active illegal refining sites utilizing the challenging terrain to carry out their illicit activities. Thirteen such sites were subsequently dismantled utilizing onboard aircraft weapons. Additionally, numerous overhead tanks connected to reservoirs and multiple gallons were destroyed in the process.
During the patrol downstream, a 6-tire tipper truck and four canoes were spotted along the riverbank, engaged in illegal product loading. Upon detecting the aircraft, the criminals dispersed, and the truck, as well as the canoes, were targeted and destroyed.
The patrol also extended over the Trans Niger Pipeline from Rumuekpe-Nkpoku to Bonny, covering various points without identifying any unusual activities.
