Inside the PDP Primaries: 31 Chairmanship Candidates Nominated for Akwa Ibom LG Elections

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has successfully elected 31 chairmanship and 368 councillorship candidates in preparation for the upcoming local government polls on October 5th.

In a statement released by the media unit of the Awka Ibom State PDP on Sunday, the party described the primaries, held on Saturday, as peaceful, a sentiment echoed by party stakeholders.

Governor Umo Eno commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries in Nsit-Ubium LGA, attributing the success to the prevailing peace in the state.

He expressed appreciation to the people of Akwa Ibom state and party faithful for their peaceful participation, particularly given the ongoing unrest in some parts of the country due to the hunger protest.

The governor reiterated his commitment to unveiling and implementing more welfare programs for the youths, congratulating the chairmanship candidate of Nsit Ubium, Mr. Alfred Charles, and all councilorship candidates emerged from the nomination exercise. He urged them to uphold democratic principles and contribute to community development efforts encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda.

Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi in Oron Local Government Area and state PDP chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan in Ukanafun LGA, praised the primaries as demonstrations of orderliness and peace, emphasizing the party's readiness to win at the polls and deliver good governance.

In Abak, delegates elected Mrs. Ime Charles as the party's flagbearer for the forthcoming local government elections at the Independence Hall. Speaker of the State Assembly Udeme Otong, former member of the National Assembly Aniekan Umanah, and other leaders expressed confidence in the party's significant victory prospects in the October polls.
