American athlete Gabby Thomas achieved an outstanding win in the women’s Olympic 200m in Paris on Tuesday, securing the first major title of her career.

Gabby Thomas completed the race in 21.83 seconds, claiming victory ahead of Julien Alfred of St. Lucia, who finished with a time of 22.08 seconds. Thomas' compatriot, Brittany Brown, secured the bronze with a time of 22.20 seconds.

At 27 years old, Gabby Thomas, who previously won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, became the first American woman to win an Olympic short sprint title since Allyson Felix’s triumph in the 200m at the 2012 London Games.

Although St. Lucia’s Alfred aimed for an Olympic sprint double after her remarkable victory in the 100m on Saturday, Thomas, recognized as the fastest woman over this distance in the world this year, was determined to achieve her well-deserved victory. Displaying excellent form, Thomas accelerated from the start and established a considerable lead approaching the home straight. Her strength and finishing power remained unwavering as she crossed the finish line to claim the gold medal.
