The Federal Government of Nigeria has released a travel alert on Monday, cautioning its citizens planning to travel to the United Kingdom.
According to a statement by the spokesperson to the Minister of Interior, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, the government highlighted the risk of heightened violence following recent riots in the UK.
The notice advised Nigerian citizens to be extra vigilant and take precautionary measures when traveling to the UK, emphasizing the avoidance of political processions, protests, rallies, marches, crowded areas, and large gatherings.
The travel alert emerged in response to rioters in the UK breaking into hotels housing asylum seekers on Sunday amidst the nation's worst unrest in recent times.
CNN reported that the rioters set the hotels on fire, instigated by the stabbing of three young girls in Southport, northwest England, earlier in the week.
The protesters vandalized and set fire to two Holiday Inns in northern England, including one in Tamworth, previously criticized for housing asylum seekers, and another in Rotherham.
