In protest at Eagle Square, Abuja, the police discharged their firearms, allegedly in an attempt to disperse the protesters. According to reports, the protesters had originally been denied access to the venue by Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Eyewitnesses at the scene observed individuals fleeing in various directions to avoid potential gunfire.
It was reported that the demonstrators had initially gathered at the National Stadium before proceeding to Eagle Square to protest the high cost of living in the area.
The police, however, have claimed that the protesters attacked them with explosives, leading to the deployment of tear gas canisters to maintain order.
The protest, known as the #EndBadGovernance movement, aims to highlight and address the challenges posed by the high cost of living in Nigeria.
