Benue Political Drama: Ortom and PDP Chairman Exchange Heated Remarks on Suspension Claims

Former Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has refuted allegations of his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ortom dismissed reports of his suspension from the PDP as invalid. His spokesperson, Tever Akase, communicated that the embattled Benue PDP Chairman, John Ngbede, lacked the authority to convene any meeting to suspend any member.

Akase clarified that Ngbede himself had been suspended for a month. He affirmed, "Ortom has not been suspended. He is the party's leader in the state, and any meeting conducted or ongoing without his consent is without merit."

Nonetheless, Ngbede insisted that the former governor's suspension from the PDP stands. Addressing reporters at the party’s headquarters in Makurdi on Tuesday, Ngbede stated that Ortom was suspended for trying to seize control of the PDP leadership in the state.

He emphasized, "The former governor was indeed suspended by the State Working Committee of the party because we are determined not to allow anyone to forcibly assume leadership of the party. The party is owned by the people, and that is our objective. We won't permit anyone to revert to the old ways of hijacking voting materials. It's important to enable people to experience the impact of the congress."
