The Bauchi Emirate Council has rescinded the traditional title held by Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents the Bauchi South senatorial district in the National Assembly. The revocation is attributed to his alleged 'insulting and criticizing' remarks directed at the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
Senator Buba, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and holder of the title 'Mandarin Bauchi', voiced accusations against Governor Mohammed, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during a recent press briefing.
He claimed that the governor diverted palliative items provided by the APC-led federal government, accusing the state government of selling essential supplies like rice, corn, and fertilizer that were intended to alleviate economic hardship, rather than distributing them to the people.
A letter dated August 14, 2024, signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council's secretary, formally communicated the withdrawal of Senator Umar's traditional title, following a council meeting held on Wednesday.
The resolution to remove him from his traditional role within the emirate was made because his alleged misconduct contradicted the values and traditions upheld by the Bauchi Emirate.
