APC member Jonathan Vatsa Demands Akpabio Resignation After Disparaging Comments on Protesters

Jonathan Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, has publicly called for the resignation of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Vatsa has also urged Akpabio to issue an apology to the protesting youth for his remarks regarding the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and hardship.

In a statement titled “Time for Akpabio to go is now,” Vatsa criticized Akpabio's comments as callous and regrettable, especially considering his position as the third-ranking official in the country. Akpabio was claimed to have made unfavorable remarks during the lead-up to the EndBadGovernance protests, suggesting that he and other individuals loyal to President Bola Tinubu would continue benefiting from the administration while others engaged in protests.

Vatsa highlighted the incongruity of Akpabio's desire to persist in benefiting from the current APC government, despite having also benefited during the 16 years of the PDP government. Vatsa expressed disappointment in the APC for allowing individuals such as Akpabio, whom Nigerians had decided to move away from when they embraced "Change" in 2015, to hold significant positions in the party and the government. He stated that this situation is detrimental to the party's reputation and undermines its efforts to regain the trust of the Nigerian people.

Vatsa stressed the need for the APC to take corrective actions and rebuild trust among Nigerians, starting with Akpabio's resignation. He asserted that such a step would signal the party's earnestness in addressing the concerns of the public and reinstating confidence in its leadership.
