In response to President Bola Tinubu's broadcast on the nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance in Nigeria, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, voiced his disapproval, citing it as inadequate and disconnected from the underlying concerns that prompted the countrywide demonstration.
In a formally released statement, the party chieftain highlighted the absence of critical policy outlines from the President's address in addressing genuine concerns such as the extravagant costs associated with public offices and the opulent lifestyles of government officials. He expressed disappointment in the President's seemingly dismissive approach to pivotal issues detrimental to the nation's progress, including the high cost of governance, corruption, judicial malpractices, electoral impropriety, hunger, unemployment, the adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal, escalating banditry, overall insecurity, and the soaring cost of living.
Eze further articulated his dismay at the President's apparent lack of seriousness in navigating the volatile nationwide situation, attributing it directly to the President's incompetence. He asserted that Tinubu's actions diverged from the core principles of the APC – a party initially established to foster a united and prosperous Nigeria.
Eze, drawing from his prior role as the spokesperson for nPDP and a member of the APC Media Legacy Project Committee, emphasized the misalignment between Tinubu's current leadership and the original vision of the APC, for which many individuals had earnestly strived. He expressed regret that the party's mission to rescue Nigeria had been overshadowed by Tinubu's aspirations for the presidency, and offered an unequivocal apology to the Nigerian populace for the misguided outcome. This detour, Eze lamented, had irreparably marred Nigeria's international standing, with numerous nations advising caution to their citizens when traveling to Nigeria.
Citing exorbitant expenditures, Eze questioned the rationale behind allocating over 21 billion Naira for constructing a residence for the Vice President amidst pervasive hardship, insinuating that such allocation implied the Vice President’s homelessness. He criticized the present administration for fostering a culture of corruption, flagrantly indulging in extravagant spending while the general populace languished in poverty, devoid of any semblance of remorse.
